21st April 2006
Dear Sir,
Your article today (21st April) refers to the problem of vehicles
chewing up grass verges. Various corrective measures are suggested, but
the rather obvious one isn't discussed.
Vehicles have no place on verges or pavements, and, furthermore they are breaking the law by driving on them. The Council should enforce the
law as Newcastle Council is beginning to do. This action recognises the
rights of pedestrians over motorists (and indeed motorists are pedestrians when they walk) and this is a start to our converting our
towns and cities from used car lots to pleasant and healthy places in which to live.
Yours faithfully,
Paul Winch,
Co-ordinator,
Tyne Crossings Alliance.
