Dear Sir, Mr J Whitfield seems to display some confusion over the second Tyne road tunnel issue in his letter 'Protestors not in the know' on 10th October. I'm sure in his ignorance Mr Whitfield welcomes the project. Presumably he also welcomes the extra traffic, the extra car pollution, the further social disintegration and the explosion in child illnesses? Accusing protestors of parochial self interest is a scornful attack on the people of Epinay walk who are looking at a dark future of noise and fumes less than 40 feet from their doors. Accusing protestors of greed is offensive to the ordinary local people who freely volunteer their time to fight a project where the only people who will profit will be the fat cat PFI bosses who will be collecting the tolls.
